Larry Achiampong: What I Hear I Keep

For this week’s gallery, we are sharing ‘What I Hear I Keep’, a new flag created by artist Larry Achiampong. Installed at the Good Hotel on the 30th June, this flag is part of a public art walk created by The Line. Achiampong has an ongoing series of Pan African flags and symbols that ‘What I Hear I Keep’ is part of. Achiampong is British Ghanaian, and created this series as a way to celebrate African identities. The bold colour scheme used in this piece represents the land, the people and the struggles the continent as a whole has faced. The yellow-gold represents new days and prosperity. These colours complement each other in a way that creates a striking and strong visual, which stands out in a proud way. The 54 stars represent each country in Africa, truly embodying the sense of community that Achiampong aimed to achieve.
