‘Artist of the moment’ Peter Doyle recently presented his work in Dublin, at the newly opened Maser Atelier on 7 December 2018. Doyle will now take up residency at The Exhibitionist Hotel in London with his show In Plain Sight, to celebrate with us everything that is great and wonderful about Ireland.
Self-taught and trained, the young Donaghmede-born painter now lives and works in Hackney. Painting mostly with acrylic on canvas, Doyle’s work possesses a naive bravery. Pastel tones and patterns set the backdrop for the majority of Doyle’s compositions. Overset with recurring motifs of women, horses and flowers, Doyle reinvents the still life with a charming intimacy. Having described his approach as ‘casual’, Doyle’s work can be recognised by his immediate, definitive way of mark-making.
Curator Vestalia Chilton commented:
“This solo exhibition will continue to explore the characters surrounding Peter. Some from abroad, some are of friends set upon a distorted set of Dublin motifs, and others reflect stories and characters of intrigue to the artist. Prolifically producing intoxicating and dramatic paintings, we know that Peter has an auspicious career ahead.”
